Not usually. However, this procedure may cause a bit of discomfort, as the skin in your ear canal is so sensitive. For this reason we avoid touching it wherever possible. If the build up of wax is so much that it is pushing on your ear drum, this may be a little painful when removing.
If you have a lot of wax removed it may well be sensitive so please keep it protected and we do advise that after any amount of earwax removal you keep it dry for the next 24 hours.
Yes. Please apply olive oil drops to the affected ear/s three days prior to your appointment. This helps soften the wax meaning it is more likely all or most of the wax can be removed on the day.
It usually take anywhere from 20-45 minutes depending on how soft the wax is.
No. Ear wax is natural and your ears will always produce wax. Microsuction only removes the wax currently in your ears, it will not stimulate your ears to make more than previously.
We advise keeping your ear dry for the next 24 hours after your treatment. This is because your ears may be a little sensitive after the procedure, as well as vulnerable to infection.
Oakwood Clinic can perform microsuction on anyone over the age of 18.
